Katelin Calhoun

Katelin Calhoun

Camp Director

I was born in Emporia KS, the founding city of Veterans Day! I spent two years in Shreveport LA before moving to Chadron NE. I grew up in Camping Ministries; I have done just about every job you can imagine at a Camp, from scrubbing toilets to programming. Camping is my passion; I enjoy making a difference in the live s of others. I can honestly say that Camp makes me a better person. No two days are the same and I am constantly growing and learning.

When I have down time you can find me hiking, playing fetch with my dogs, brushing my horses, horseback riding, painting, practicing my archery shot, or going on a drive to explore towns and places around Chadron.

I am currently working on my Recreation Degree at Butler Community College. I am planning on transferring to Chadron State College in the fall.

I completed the Basic Camp Directors Course offered by ACA. I am certified as a Lifeguard Instructor, this allows me to teach and certify individuals in first aide, CPR, AED, blood borne pathogens, lifeguarding, and wilderness first aide. I am a grade 5 water operator. I am certified as an archery instructor. I am also Safe Gatherings Certified. This year I am planning on becoming an ACA visitor and also getting my ropes course certification.

Camp Facilitator

I was born and raised on a small ranch near Haigler, Nebraska.
I moved to Chadron in 2013 to attend college at Chadron State
from which I now have a degree in Interdisciplinary Studies. In
my free time I enjoy painting, crafting, photography, hanging
out with my dog Bella, and spending time outdoors.

I was a camp counselor at Camp Norwesca in 2015 and
2016 where I found a passion for camping ministries within
myself. Camp has changed my life and has started me on
an amazing faith journey.

I am Safe Gatherings certified along with being a certified
archery instructor. I am also certified in life-guarding, CPR,
First Aid, AED, and blood borne pathogens.

Kitchen Manager

I am from Florida. I am currently the Kitchen Manager at Camp Norwesca. I enjoy meeting and interacting with people. I like to cook and I definitely like to eat. On my days off I enjoy working on my survival/camping pack, playing video games, paint balling, playing mini golf, hosting football game days, going to the movies, and attending/writing reviews for commercial haunted houses. Before working at Norwesca I was a night time kitchen manager at White Memorial Camp and was a kitchen manager at Applebee’s before I moved to Chadron. I went to college at Louisiana State University and Emporia State University for Business and Physical Education.

Jumpin’ Jax

Jumpin’ Jax

Camp Dog

I was born on a small farm in Missouri on March 19th, 2015,
they raise registered border collies to show in 4-H. My
registered name is Jumpin’ Jax but everyone calls me Jax,
or Jaxson if I am in trouble! My mom (Katelin) picked me
up during the GP Camps staff training at Camp Chippewa
in May of 2015. She then brought me home to Camp
Norwesca. I love life at Camp! My job title is currently Camp
Dog although I think of myself as Mom’s (Katelin’s) assistant.
My daily responsibilities include receiving attention from
campers, eating pine cones and sticks, hiking with campers,
taking short naps in the shade, and playing fetch! There is
nothing in the world that I love more than fetch! Well, except
belly rubs. It’s not easy being a Camp Dog but someone has
to do it.
